When you first open Equitem, you'll be guided through a short welcome carousel and setup flow:
You can skip setup and come back to it later. The app works right away.
The app has four main tabs along the bottom:
After initial setup, a checklist card appears on your Dashboard to guide you through key actions: adding a horse, logging your first session, scheduling a care task, creating a nutrition plan, and planning an event. The checklist automatically detects your progress and dismisses itself once you've completed 4 or more steps.
Tap any horse card to view their full profile, which includes:
To edit, open the horse's profile and tap Edit in the top-right corner. To delete, scroll to the bottom of the horse's profile and tap the red Delete button. A confirmation will ask you to confirm — this permanently removes the horse and all associated sessions, health records, care tasks, nutrition plans, feed logs, and equipment.
Your most frequently used activity types appear at the top for quick selection.
The Log tab shows all your sessions across all horses. You can:
When you have a planned event on your calendar, you can log it as a completed session directly. The session form will pre-fill details from the event, and the event's status will automatically update to "Completed".
Care tasks help you stay on top of routine horse care. To add one:
Overdue care tasks appear highlighted on your Dashboard so you never miss one.
Record health issues, injuries, or illnesses:
Create a feeding plan for each horse:
Record daily feeds to track what each horse is actually eating:
The Calendar tab shows a weekly grid with all your planned events, sessions, care tasks, and feed logs. Features include:
Plan future events such as competitions, clinics, lessons, camps, trail rides, transport days, and more. Over 25 event types are available across Competitive, Training, Social & Recreational, Logistics & Admin, and Horse Lifecycle categories.
Build reusable weekly training routines:
Generate a month's worth of planned events from your routines:
Insights are available from the Dashboard (tap the insights banner) or through the horse's profile. The Insights view lets you select a horse and a time range (7, 14, or 30 days).
The ideal intensity balance is approximately 50% easy, 30% medium, and 20% hard sessions — the app tracks how close you are to this.
The Dashboard shows a training load banner when relevant — it highlights your weekly session count and flags if you're in an overload pattern so you can adjust your schedule.
Track all equipment for each horse — saddles, bridles, bits, girths, boots, rugs, halters, and more:
Track your own gear (helmet, boots, body protector, gloves, etc.) from your Rider Profile in Settings. Rider equipment is managed separately from horse equipment and can be tagged when logging sessions.
When logging a session, you can select which equipment (both horse and rider) was used. This helps you track usage patterns and know when gear might need replacing.
Access your rider profile from Settings → tap your name at the top. Here you can update your name, biography, experience level, riding disciplines, profile photo, and location. You can also view and manage your rider equipment and see which horses you're assigned to.
Choose between System, Light, or Dark theme. You can also toggle Hide Help Buttons to remove the floating help (?) buttons from all screens.
Found in Settings → Data section. This permanently deletes all horses, sessions, care tasks, photos, and other data from your device. This action cannot be undone.
Most screens in the app have a floating ? button in the bottom-right corner. Tap it to see tips and guidance specific to that screen. You can step through the tips or dismiss them. If you prefer a cleaner look, hide these buttons from Settings.
No. All your data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to external servers. Your data stays entirely private.
No. Equitem Life works immediately — no sign-up, no login, no account required. A local profile is created automatically when you first open the app.
Yes. You can add as many horses as you like, each with their own profile, sessions, health records, nutrition plans, and equipment.
You can attach photos from your library or take new ones using your camera. Photos can be added to sessions, horse profiles, health incidents, and equipment records. All photos are stored locally on your device.
Text fields for session notes, goals, and reflections have a microphone button. Tap it to start dictating — the app uses Apple's built-in speech recognition to convert your voice to text. Requires microphone and speech recognition permissions.
Over 30 activity types across four categories: Riding Disciplines (dressage, show jumping, eventing, western, reining, endurance, trail, barrel racing, etc.), Training Focus (flatwork, pole work, conditioning, speed work, etc.), Ground Training (lunging, long-reining, liberty, desensitisation, etc.), and Behaviour & Education (young horse starting, re-training, confidence building, etc.).
Over 25 care types across four categories: Daily Care (feeding, grooming, rug change, turnout), Health & Veterinary (vaccination, dental, worming, vet, medications, injury treatment), Hoof & Body Care (farrier, hoof trim, physio, chiro, massage), and Tack & Equipment (saddle fit, bridle fit, gear maintenance).
Yes. When creating a care task, set a recurrence interval (e.g. every 6 weeks, every 3 months). When you mark a recurring task as complete, a new task is automatically created for the next due date.
The fitness score (0–100) is calculated from five factors: training volume (are you riding enough?), intensity balance (is your easy/medium/hard mix healthy?), consistency (how regular is your riding streak?), rating trends (are horse and rider ratings improving?), and recovery (are you leaving enough rest between hard sessions?). It updates as you log more sessions.
The app warns you if you've logged 3 or more hard sessions within 5 days, or if your weekly training duration has spiked more than 35% over the previous week. These alerts help you avoid overtraining.
Yes, if you grant calendar permission. Planned events can be synced with your device calendar so they appear alongside your other appointments.
Yes. When logging a session, the app can detect your current location (with your permission) and tag the session with a place name and coordinates for your records. Location data is stored locally and never transmitted.
Since all data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app will permanently delete all your data. There is no cloud backup to restore from. We recommend keeping the app installed to preserve your records.
Go to the Settings tab and scroll to the Data section. Tap "Reset All Data" to permanently delete all horses, sessions, photos, and other data from your device.
No. Equitem Life does not use any third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or device tracking. We do not collect your advertising identifier. The app makes no network requests.
All permissions are optional: Camera (photos), Photo Library (select/save images), Calendar (event sync), Location (session tagging), Microphone & Speech Recognition (voice-to-text), and Notifications (care task reminders). The app works without any of these, though some features will be unavailable.
Go to Settings → Help → Report a Bug. Select a category, describe the issue, and the app will compose a pre-filled email with your device info included.
Equitem Life requires iOS 18.6 or later. Compatible with iPhone.
